Not a public footpath - it is the 12th Green and not a cut through to FP 34. Footpath 39 goes west into the field and towards the main road. Footpath 34 can be accessed from the main road west of the golf course

There's a dam mapped as https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/274187967 that doesn't have a body of water behind it, although there's a stream mapped nearby. This seems like it might be a mistake.

It seems to have been added relatively recently (3 years ago) by an inexperienced contributor. I certainly can't recall a gate along this route (it's a bridleway which makes it doubly unlikely). It's possible that the gate belongs to an adjacent hedge.
5~ 5 years agocommentedSK53
♦3,859
However, the Bing imagery does suggest the presence of something like a gate across the path.
6~ 5 years agocommentedwill_p
♦316
There was definitely a gate here a couple of years ago. No idea whether it is still there now. The user who added this gate, originally also added one at the other end joining Strelley Lane, which was incorrect (actually a horse stile). When checking that I verified this one exists.
7~ 5 years agocommentedMaprefThere is a bridlegate at this junction, from the Shaw's Plantation direction, two way metal swing gate with tall rider friendly handle. The gate at Strelley lane end is now a heavy duty locking metal gate, although still with pedestrian etc access on either side. Severn Trent access gate (for Catstone Hill covered reservoir) with do not obstruct signage. A popular parking spot.
8~ 5 years agocommentedMaprefMain locking gate as described is at Main St/ Strelley Lane junction (bridlepath access); there is another metal 5 bar gate at dropped pin (reservoir access), usually open.
9~ 5 years agocommentedSK53

2~ 5 years agocommentedMaprefThe new substantial gate is across the easterly limb of a fork in the access track adjacent to Main St, the limb of the fork to the north into Main St has recently been obstructed with a large log. The original metal 5 bar gate remains but open behind these across the neck of the Severn Trent access track.

1~ 5 months agoopened---Footpath visited 14/03/26. The path does not cut through the small field to the south as indicated currently on the map - there are no gates or stiles to facilitate this. Instead, if walking south from Sheffield Road, the footpath actually follows the curved fence east and south, staying between the building and the curved fence before entering the southern field. Confirmed this on Derbyshire County Council website - see "Peak Forest Footpath 60, Sparrowpit". #osmreport #osmbe

I've had mixed results with them. A few years ago (pre-Covid) they were quite active with making claims. But 15 years ago they were completely dismissive of OSM (and clearly, at the time, all retired). The Ramblers are the other group likely to be able to so something. Not sure how active they are locally.
