I believe I've commented elsewhere on this but The Telegraph is wrong, it's a no entry from the A56 for motoring only. Two-way use is unaffected everywhere else on the road. PS this was a campaign led by the local Tories (Nathan Evans) to overturn a decision to build a crossing, as campaigned for by a local schoolgirl.

Yes, if I get a chance this week. Cycled through there only 2 weeks ago before the filters got put in overnight! For what it's worth, I think they're temporary modal filters (as photographed), with the intention of making it a pocket park after a trial period. There's no way the council could have put in a pocket park overnight!

22025-05-18 23:27commentedSlySvenI wasn't aware of any path to the south side of the river - and given that that site is being redeveloped for a leisure centre (and swimming pool?) I doubt that any path would persist there for much longer. OTOH the path to the north side was open IIRC a few weeks ago as I cycled along it and remembered that some of the vegetation had been trimmed back compared to previous years...

Something still doesn't seem right. Why would the change from two to one way be at the pedestrian entrance to the park? Do you have any photos of signs to confirm location?
52025-02-17 17:01commentedmstrbrid
♦135
Not of that point, only showing the Eastern end of Castle St from the new pedestrian & cycleway junction with Old Market St. How best to share that? Castle St was reduced to make space for the widened pavement & cycleway. It's at that pedestrian entrance to the park that the carriageway narrows, with a one-way arrow painted on the asphalt. My guess is it allows maintenance vehicles to Castle Park and the CHP plant to go back-and-forth easily.

22025-01-31 03:41commentedJhynjhiruuPartial collapse of the river wall in 2020; chocolate path, trackbed and part of road fell into the river. All repaired, chocolate path and road reopened, rails still missing but trackbed re-ballasted.

♦691
Does the relaid track extend to Butterfly junction?
42025-01-31 18:07commentedJhynjhiruuNo, not yet. There's a work site (I think for the repairs to the river walls) in the way of the trackbed, and most of the rail in that area has been removed. The track directly connected to the shed (which is known as 'the Barn') is still in place, but it's substantially overgrown. Beyond the work site (starting near the traffic lights on the road branching off Cumberland Road) the ballast is in place, but no rail or sleepers. The platform is there, but not yet in the right place. If it's useful, I'll take some photos when I'm next there.

22025-01-21 12:29commentedJames Derrick

Hi DaveF, Bit of an odd place for a stop, especially as the bridge isn't that wide! This looks like a NaPTAN data issue to me. I cycled along this section to check the NP AB&T station works, and only remember crane access works to the North. My imagery is a tad old, but no sign of the width for a stop: https://www.mapillary.com/app/?pKey=2945191725695692 The huge crawler crane used to build the AB&T new platform should have gone from NP station, so I'll have a look. Happy Mapping, James

Hi DaveF, Mapillary imagery updated after a quick survey - there's no sign of even the possibility of a bus stop on the bridge: https://www.mapillary.com/app/?pKey=1198699968549916 From the naptan:Landmark, they look either very misplaced , or very old (i.e. pre-dual carriageway). Other data sources don't show any services, suggesting deletion: https://bustimes.org/stops/4100004MS04A Do you want to do the delete / move edit? (The crawler crane at NP station is still there as apparently construction won't complete until Christmas-ish.) Happy Mapping, James

Hi DaveF, The bridge structure was based on the available imagery from ESRI. The bridge as-built is quite a hump-back and has parapets and four supports to span both the two track railway, two platforms, and additional access for maintenance (I was surveying there yesterday). I'll centre the bridge:structure=beam on the pway centre, but until there's more imagery look at the newsletter: https://static.wixstatic.com/media/91d511_7836519cbd494118af0852a33b56e810~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_2039,h_1528,al_c,q_90/91d511_7836519cbd494118af0852a33b56e810~mv2.webp https://www.northumberlandline.uk/post/northumberland-line-a-view-from-above Happy Mapping, James
