~ 8 months ago | commented | Cwhitlock ♦4 | I've renamed this road segment. If you would like to confirm accuracy. I will personally visit this location on-site in a couple weeks, I want to confirm signage/street signs if possible. |
~ 8 months ago | commented | jidanni ♦16 | I'm sorry to inform you that... Google Maps names for these roads make 100 times more sense! And any "Avenue" here would have to be in the 150s anyway without "using longitude for latitude". |
~ 8 months ago | commented | FeetAndInches ♦273 | It looks like this segment is a jog to connect the two pieces of 99th Street north and south of this note. If that is the case, it would typically keep the 99th Street name even if it goes north/south for a short stretch. Google Maps data is not allowed to be used for Open Street Map changes. Do you have another source for the name of this road? |

I briefly checked county highway maps but there were no names. Also there is a firewall for connecting to nd.gov sites from overseas... You might just end up emailing the county government. | |

~ 8 months ago | commented | fudoreaper ♦535 | I'm seeing that each block is an independent way (segment). The stadard "mapnik' renderer therefore puts a street name on each block, making the "density of street names" you notice. It's not a hack, it's valid in OSM, but is causing this display difference. Other map layers or ways of looking at the map (like organic maps) display just fine. I don't think we need to do anything about this. |
~ 8 months ago | commented | jidanni ♦16 | Okay. I'm temporarily not filing a Mapnik bug, to get them to recognize similarly names segments, because who would imagine people would like to do such painful editing in the first place. |
~ 8 months ago | commented | fudoreaper ♦535 | There are different reasons for having one street split into multiple ways, with different tags: Turning lanes or restrictions, speed limit changes, number of lanes, surface material, metro route number changes, and so on. Therefore having one street with several different ways is sometimes the correct way to map it. Having too many visible labels is therefore a rendering issue, not an underlying data issue. |
