Looking at the Bing Imagery I can not see a clear area for a landing, and am not sure where they would land, so have not added anything to the map. If we could find the location it'd be nice to add the landing site to the map. |
~ 3 years ago | commented | Rps333 ♦15,589 | is this note still open? |
~ 3 years ago | commented | Martin868 ♦3,997 | could the helicopter simply land on the road. There seem to be a wide enogh tree opening on earch side of the road. |
~ 3 days ago | commented | eerib ♦197 | This was very likely to be a temporary designated emergency landing point for a specific helicopter logging operation. These tend to change with each operation. |
~ 2 days ago | commented | keithonearth ♦1,773 | So do you think the note should be closed then, without adding a helicopter landing site? I don't know anything about the use of helicopters in logging, but if it's not a permanent feature then it shouldn't be mapped in OSM. |

| 5126052 Category: Unknown | 1 | ~ 7 months ago | opened | DENelson83 ♦2,505 | Syntax error. Each house number must be in a separate node or way, as Garmin devices cannot properly parse house numbers that are grouped like this. |
~ 7 months ago | closed | QuigleyJones ♦3,200 | Per https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Addresses#Buildings_with_multiple_house_numbers Syntax is valid. Added address line as example of possible solution |

~ 6 months ago | closed | keithonearth ♦1,773 | The syntax of using a list of housenumbers separated by commas is valid. I often use that approach when adding addresses from my phone, but usually move the addresses of buildings with multiple addresses to individual nodes when I get home, because it seems to be the convention in Vancouver, looks cleaner, and is necessary when buildings have addresses on different streets (corner lots). I can understand other people not liking the comma separated list. In this case I must have just forgotten to move the addresses to nodes when I got home. But two approaches were taken to get rid of the comma separated lists here, and both are worse than a comma separated list. One building had the four addresses (52 to 58) replaced with two specific addresses, and an interpolated way between them. This provides less information than having all addresses listed, and while not wrong, is less good. Two buildings (building with addresses 60 to 68, and with 76/78) were remapped as multiple buildings, one for each address. This is wrong. Buildings should not be divided into multiple buildings unless they are physically separate structures in reality. An separate address is not enough to make it a separate building. I've fixed these edits, and done so by moving the addresses of buildings with multiple addresses to individual nodes. I've returned the two addresses that had been deleted. Hopefully this should make everyone happy. |

| 4709714 Category: unknown | 1 | ~ 1 year ago | opened | DENelson83 ♦2,505 | There are a LOT of houses in Vancouver whose street addresses are missing on OpenStreetMap. If any Vancouver-based mappers are able to, I would like them to walk around these neighbourhoods and record the addresses of as many houses as they can. |
~ 1 year ago | commented | akana932 ♦9 | Forgive me if this has already been considered, I'm new to editing, but why not reference the municipal land parcel map (VanMap)? It's all publicly available. https://maps.vancouver.ca/patio_permits/ |
~ 1 year ago | commented | QuigleyJones ♦3,200 | you can import the data from https://opendata.vancouver.ca/explore/dataset/property-addresses/information/ Maybe ask keithonearth_imports who added the buildings |
~ 1 year ago | commented | DENelson83 ♦2,505 | Has the "Open Government Licence - Vancouver" been properly vetted for compatibility with OSM? |
~ 1 year ago | commented | fmarier ♦1,207 | See https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:AdamWill/Imports/Vancouver_property_addresses for the legal implications. It sounds like it would be okay, but it's probably best to check with AdamWill and PNorman. |
~ 1 year ago | commented | fmarier ♦1,207 | Also, huge +1 on this kind of import. I did downtown + West End manually a few years ago and it took a loooong time. |
~ 1 year ago | commented | DENelson83 ♦2,505 | Well, incidentally, I surveyed all of Qualicum Beach's street addresses in person last year. It took me nine weekends to cover the whole town. |
~ 8 months ago | commented | keithonearth ♦1,773 | Whether or not we do an import, I think it's important to be aware that the Vancouver address dataset from the CoV is not 100% accurate. There seems to be two issues with it, both of which stem from the fact that it is a map of the addresses of land parcels, not a map of all addresses. So when a single building takes up more than one parcel it has two nodes usually/always with the same address. More importantly when a land parcel has more than one address, only one is in the dataset. I've just been viewing the dataset in JOSM, looking at areas I manually added addresses to, and cannot find a single example of a building with more than one address in reality that has more than one in the dataset. When I did the building trace import, I checked on both the Wiki and the mailing list, and the only comments I got were in support of the licences being compatible, as long as the source was noted. If we do an import of addresses, I think it's important to include a fixme tag, or something else to track that the address has been imported w/o checking in person, so we can check for buildings with more than one address. The import itself wouldn't be particularly skilled, at least the way I'd do it. Open the CoV data in a separate layer in Josm, and copy and paste into the OSM layer, building by building. It would also take some pre-proccessing, so that the tags would match OSM standards, like changing streetname tags to not be in ALLCAPS. |
~ 8 months ago | commented | DENelson83 ♦2,505 | And this is why on-the-ground surveys would be preferred here. |
~ 8 months ago | commented | keithonearth ♦1,773 | Certainly, on the ground surveys produce the best results, the trade off is the amount of time they take. Vancouver is far behind other cities, for address data. |
~ 6 months ago | commented | Sieva ♦82 | I think doing an import of non-existing addresses is the way to go. |

~ 5 months ago | closed | Sieva ♦82 | I imported the addresses. All have the same fixme and source:addr tags, so should be easily searchable. |
