Imagery doesn't help either, too much trees. Not even GM street view. Therefore, or you provide yourself a higher level of mapping because you're not entirely satisfied (personal task), or we're fine with this current level and we close the note. You cannot leave an open note, just expecting someone is interested in the same as you, to improve the detail. We must be realistic: we're not enough mappers, and if we leave this note open, it could take years to be solved, if does. And that's just noise. Do you wanna improve the map? Cool, do it. Are you requesting anybody to do something you want? Sorry, but that's not the purpose of the notes. An unresolved note is worthless. | |

I came across this issue and would want to voice my support in favor of (disclaimer he's my friend) Ondra. There is added, non-personal value in recording an information "something is wrong and it can't be inferred from OSM". This is a common practice. And the wiki article you linked seems to agree this view, citing the point you are arguing with "Don't use notes for yourself in a way which is useless to others." such info is not useless as there is value. This is a common thing in element tagging too, e.g. the whole discussion about supporting `no` values ( related to https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:*:signed ). If you still think there is no value or this is a personal note, please use a different channel to voice your concerns as the rule says "Don't argue. I said there is value to others in "knowing there's something still wrong to fix" and pointing to the problem, as Ondra's original comment says in its full form. I am all for a fact-based discussion but it seems you are using partial citations to support your case against something that has value and is common practice in OSM.. Would you close a note that says "there are steps in this tunnel" just because you can't go and resolve it without a survey? Just because you must do a survey instead of aerial is no reason to close one. If instead the case is that this place has no more paths that need mapping as your 3rd paragraph suggests this is a data conflict, not a personal/nonpersonal issue one and you should have said so in the beginning instead of making this issue almost useless in case anyone gathers more data about the original issue, e.g. by collecting more facts so the issue can be actually resolved... I don't want to sound rude, but its hard for me in English because I am not a native speaker but I am also a bit disappointed. I think I said what I needed, so I won't bother anymore.
