Certain OS mapping has, since 2010 been available under an open licence. In February 2015, they moved from an OS-specific open licence, to OGLv3, but for unknown reasons they continue to want the attribution as shown, with no reference to the OGL. The map pictured is one of the OGL licenced products, data from which can therefore be freely included in OSM, as with the OS imagery layers in the iD editor. If I had to guess looking at the map, I would say this is probably a drainage ditch with a very shallow gradient intended to provide additional drainage when the ground is very wet, and that it drains west to east into the pond in Duloch Park. The watercourse west of this marker is in roughly the location of the old right of way (Gypsie Lane) which emerges on the south side of the substation on Linburn Road. From memory, the land adjacent to the substation is slightly higher, and there's no culvert, so that would fit with the flow being west to east. Even the detailed OS mapping (available via pastmap.org.uk) doesn't show a direction on this watercourse. | |

I have added it to some useful footways/paths in OSM (so it is rendered and routers can use them) like this: https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/51795132 - there's no shared use sign but a) it's a core path and b) access rights would also apply as it's not adopted. I would agree that if it's not able to be cycled then there's not much point in adding it, as technically you could add bicycle=yes to all paths that aren't adopted or pavements. | |

Per access rights, bicycle=yes would be appropriate too I think. And in an ideal world, routing software could account for the width tag to discourage this footway if narrow, but I don't think there's any such software that does so alas. | |

Rather, cycle=yes should be where cycling is generally considered appropriate. It defaults to 'unspecified' rathet than 'no'. | |
