Star of the Sea Boys National School is 200 metres to the northwest: https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/554985279/ The person who created the note seems to have got the location wrong. As to the house, it seems like a modern pastiche addition. Both entrances on Sandymount Court, but who knows what the address is.

3~ 3 days agocommentedVictorIE
♦3,009
Hi, Welcome to OSM. Thank you for the note. The green line represents the hedge. :) I've added some more. I've revised the boundary between the residential and grassland land uses. It's hard to see exactly what happens at that corner due to the big tree. I can't see what type of rear boundary the middle house has (it might be a wire fence), so I've not added one. Just to note OSM and any other map do not delineate land ownership, only the title documents do that. I've added the field name. Thank you. You might need to do a hard refresh of your browser (usually Ctrl+F5) to see the updated map. Could I ask: We have the name of the main road as "Trim Road". Is this correct? Does the old road have a name? Thank you VictorIE

Hi, That was tagged as building=construction when it was mapped 2 years ago, based on overhead imagery from 2021. It's unfortunate that the many Map Layers show such buildings as if they were complete. Based on imagery from May 2025, I've revised the tags, so it is still there, it just won't be visible on the map. If you do a hard refresh on you computer (usually Ctrl+F5) you should see it gone. A lot of that land is very low-lying and has been turned into a polder. As you can see, there are lots of parallel ditches running towards the sea. I suspect what is happening with the stream is that the existing channel was closed up and the water flow diverted into one of the ditches.

Hi, This is due to Saint Michael's Hill having to be split into multiple ways. This was done due to the complexity of the tagging required for the contra-flow bus lane. This is then further complicated by the tags needed for the bridge part of Christ Church. Then there is the matter that it isn't a very long street and a slightly long name. The map needs to fit the whole name into one way.

Thank you for your time in reading my comment, and yes, one has to significantly enlarge this map area in order to visualise Mayor Square - NCI on the LUAS Red Line, whereas the other Tram Stops appear instantly without having to do so much & then loose perspective on one's bearing. Wish that one day the Organic Maps developers will also decide to enlarge or colour all of Ireland's Train & Tram Station icons differently from the blue bus icons. This would surely enrich the map of the country we really love to visit. Good day & keep safe.

Would this be Old Mallow Road? New Mallow Road is right beside it.
2~ 1 month agocommentedVictorIE
♦3,009
No, the Old Mallow Road L2783 (L1067 inside the city boundary) is about 3 km east at this point. They meet near Grenagh. North of Grenagh, the new road was a bit more faithful to the original alignment, but not completely. If you look at the historical maps, you can probably trace the route. There used to be something like 95 bends from Cork to Mallow and it is now down to something like 35 (much kinder) bends. Source: I used to cycle the L2783 every Saturday morning in 6th year.

We have no idea who made that map or how conscientious they are. We're not big on copying Google either. Note that west of this point, the road is mapped, but marked as highway=proposed, e.g. https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/1326493079/history Based on the changeset comments, it is quite possible that construction is being concentrated on the Adare Bypass, so as to have it ready for the golf.

Mmm. Very true. I do have the original source of the map here: http://irishmotorwayinfo.com/inex/roads/index.html They have been correct on other road projects, although, I'm not 100%. I actually didn't see that proposed line, not sure how I missed it. It *might* be fully concentrated on Adare, but no one is ever sure. I *think* we should wait for official sources saying this is true. Thank you for your reply.

They don't seem to. They will most likely have been undergrounded, diverted or consolidated. When you have three poles in a line like this: https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/5052077232/ it is indicative of an undergrounded section. Careful changing from power=* to demolished:powerwould be appropriate. *

If I am correct, the Cashel Bypass was built originally from slightly north of J7 to slightly south of J9. I suspect that the N74 section was built either with the Cashel to Mitchelstown Motorway or separately. The N74 section may have a (unsigned?) name, but I suspect it isn't Cashel Bypass.

Hi! When travelling West along Davitt Road towards this junction, it's legal for all traffic to turn right (North) onto Tyrconnell Road over Blackhorse Bridge. I've looked at the layout in Vespucci and in iD edit mode in OSM web, but I don't know what the conventions are for representing a new indication that it's possible to turn right here. I asked for help on Mastodon; an OSM editor with more experience than me took a look, but was also wary to touch the junction, and recommended I leave this note. (My attention was drawn to this missing indication because my mapping app (Organic Maps) refuses to construct any route that involves turning right here.) Thanks for your time and attention! https://oldbytes.space/@fluidlogic/115696596008626780

Thank you very much for the prompt response! You're right not to click random links. It's is a link to a thread on a retrocomputing-oriented Mastodon instance. Organic Maps will propagate this change in time. That's not your responsibility! Thank you for making this update.

B95 stops suddenly.
2~ 5 months agocommentedtherealzakie
♦78
Looks like B95 goes up to B518. The signs at the roundabout have B95 in brackets, so that's my assumption.
3~ 4 months agocommentedtherealzakie
♦78
At Greystone Roundabout, one of the signs say "Antrim B95", so B95 is going somewhere, I reckon it ends at A522, as multiple signs across NI show signs for a route in brackets but is actually the route. Should I label west-bound Fountain Hill from the Greystone Road intersection as B95?
4~ 3 months agocommentedLateNightTone
♦337
To be honest it's inconclusive. I usually treat Sabre as the oracle on this: https://www.sabre-roads.org.uk/wiki/B95_(Northern_Ireland) – and it initially states that the B95 begins from the A522 roundabout, but then points out, as already noted, that it is signed in brackets, which means the first stretch is not the B95, only a route to the start of it. It might make sense for the section of Fountain Hill to be labelled B95 (and if so I would do it with both carriageways rather than one). But at the same time, there are instances of slightly nonsensical starts/ends of referenced roads across GB and NI, and the general approach is to map only what is there. So, a sitting on the fence answer I'm afraid!
5~ 3 months agocommentedtherealzakie
♦78
From signs around the area, it looks like it heads North-East (toward B518) because the sign at the intersection when coming from the roundabout, the sign says it is B95 and there is no sign heading from B95 (Greystone Road) or from the link you kindly shared, it says it is likely going to A522. I am still unsure to edit this in though.
6~ 3 months agocommentedLateNightTone
♦337
Personally I think either option would be appropriate (especially as you point out above, there are plenty of examples of roads that are signed in brackets but in error, as they are the actual road). I just don't feel strongly enough about the existing layout versus the changed one to do it myself. So if you feel more strongly about it, I support you :-) Not as a primary reference, but taking a look at [a well-known government-backed copyrighted mapping source] I see it is marked as the B95 from the A522 roundabout...
7~ 3 months agocommentedVictorIE
♦3,009
Is there a statutory order or something that defines these things?
8~ 3 months agocommentedLateNightTone
♦337
The only orders I can find are here: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/all?text=%22B95%22%20%22northern%20ireland%22 None of which refer to the B95 west of the Greystone Roundabout, let alone Founatin Hill. Unless anyone can think of another search term that might bring up something else. My hunch is that any legislation related to the B95 around the time that the Fountain Hill dual carriageway was built probably predates anything now availablie in the digital domain.
9~ 3 months agocommentedVictorIE
♦3,009
Oh, different question, but the single-carriageway section of Fountain Hill is the C108: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/nisr/1996/2/schedule/1/paragraph/1/ Is all of Fountain Hill the C108?
10~ 3 months agocommentedtherealzakie
♦78
I reckon we should go for the dual-carriageway part of Fountain Hill to be B95, then the rest C108. It would probably make the most sense.
11~ 3 months agocommentedLateNightTone
♦337
Well spotted with the Fountain Hill legislation @VictorIE. "Route C108 ... 318 metres north-east of its junction with Belfast Road, route A522" – this suggests that the C108 meets Belfast Road. i.e. "its junction with Belfast Road". Also, 318 metres is shorter than the dual carriageway section anyway, which I measure as roughly 448 metres. So at least some of the dual carriageway is definitely C108. The Sabre page for the C108 https://www.sabre-roads.org.uk/wiki/C108_(Northern_Ireland) calls attention to the disparity between sources, but ultimately states that it's one or the other: either Fountain Hill is B95 up to Greystone Road, where the B95 continues south/west and Fountain Hill continues as the C108, or Fountain Hill is all C108. So @therealzakie I'd recommend against mapping the full 448m dual carriageway section as the B95. Either make the first bit of dual carriageway as far as Greystone Road the B95 (with the remainder C108), or keep it all as tertiary C108.
12~ 3 months agocommentedVictorIE
♦3,009
All that is saying is that Fountain Hill extends to Belfast Road, not quite the same thing as saying that the C108 does.
13~ 3 months agocommentedLateNightTone
♦337
That depends on one's interpretation of a comma 😁 but I see your point. Nevertheless, the dual carriageway is longer than 318 metres, and if *at least* the section of Fountain Hill as described in the speed limit order is considered to be the C108, then that means at least some of the dual carriageway has to be C108. So I still think it's got to be one of the two options suggested above. One is supported by [the aforementioned copyrighted source], the other is supported by the brackets on signage at the A522 roundabout.

♦78

Assuming the stripey white bits are the glass corridors, they still seem to be indoors, so I would call it one building. Certainly it seems more representative of what is there that what was mapped. Lots of schools have courtyards and fragmented parts. The green houses can be separate buildings. leisure=outdoor_seating and leisure=garden are useful for courtyards. It means the area is tagged and doesn't trigger 'unconnected way' or 'area has no tags' issues.

Sometimes it is a whole street of houses. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_estate The tag doesn't seem to have been applied to ruined / demolished buildings. I found some others just now and the buildings were finished or a different building built at the same location. Is Morrison House the name of an apartment building?
3~ 4 months agoclosedMpetermYes. It is the Morrison House entrance with direct access for apartments 47-111. There is another entrance on the west side for more Morrison House apartments but there is no internal route between the apartment blocks. Additional ground floor apartments are around the various faces of the building. Nome of which exist on the map yet.

The text on the pipeline marker may have been defaced. Normally, the top number represents the diameter of the water pipe in mm. The bottom number represents the distance to the hydrant in metres. Reporting it to the site operator or the local fire service might be appropriate.

♦7,729
is this now sorted?
3~ 4 months agocommentedVictorIE
♦3,009
Hi, From my very vague recollection, it does look better. However, it does seem odd that the A20 trunk road goes via the southern bypass **and** the town centre, but that this section of Portaferry Road: https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/60352036 is not a trunk route.
4~ 2 months agocommentedLateNightTone
♦337
Ah yes, this was me a few years ago – I tried to make better sense of the routing by applying the trunk vs primary logic on https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Roads_in_the_United_Kingdom (based on road number signage being in either green [trunk] or white [primary]). On signage it appears this is still the case, and so the classifications here are *technically* correct. However looking at Sabre, the suggestion is that neither the A20 nor A21 pass through the town centre any more, as currently mapped, and instead the A21 uses the stretch you highlight @VictorIE, with both routes using the southern bypass. In theory that would mean all the current town centre trunk routing could have its numbering removed and be altered to highway=tertiary. I'd be fine with all that **except** it appears the A20 is still signposted through the town centre, and the A21 from High Street/South Street junction southwards. So removing those refs and classifications means that GPS's would not be acknowledging what drivers see on signage. Although we *could* pretend that all these signs have the road numbers in brackets. Additionally, the only legislation I can find is from 1998 https://www.legislation.gov.uk/nisr/1998/318/schedule/made (predating the bypass) stating the A20 and T11 trunk route go through the centre. So I'm not sure. The above is an option, or perhaps keep the town centre routing with existing numbering (meaning the A20 still takes 2 routes, one through centre and one via bypass), but downgrade centre routing to Primary? Then upgrade the section of Portaferry Road to trunk?

Perhaps "The Presbytery"?

Yes, that would be it. I've added it to the entrance only for now. https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/174327070

1~ 5 months agoopened---this school has been a mixed-gender school since 2015, so labeling it as a *boys* national school is wrong now

I've updated the school details generally: https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/615067427/ - let me know if anything is wrong. You might need to press Ctrl + F5 to update the map. Otherwise, it will just update by itself in a few days. The other school features will need work.

Added in changeset #167873277. Leaving note open as imagery hasn't been updated in the area and there is a lot of construction that has been completed that has yet to be added. The road layout is a very rough guideline but the main point was to just change this from a roundabout to traffic lights.

Just checked Esri and it's still showing a roundabout for me. When I drove past there 5 months ago it was all pretty cleaned up at the junction

Just saw that the imagery in this area has been updated and now everything a lot more clear now, a lot more to be mapped. Can either keep the note open to let others know that this area can be mapped a bit better or close it and let it be?

Hi, Welcome to OSM. This comment is just to let you know that this is a public note. The note facility is there to help improve the map. I am closing the note as there doesn't seem to be any mappable information. If something should be added, feel free to open a new note, adding verifiable information. I'm not sure which building you are pointing to, so if you want a link for yourself or others, you can link directly to the feature with: * This section of Our Lady's Road: https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/129211834 * House 20: https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/938420439/ * House 36: https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/938420486/ This note should disappear in the next few days. Added. From the vents it seems to be a minor power substation.
