Monmouth Mall is being demolished and luxury apartments are going to be built in its place.
2~ 1 year agocommentedjhaluska80
♦3,014
I did a first pass on updating it based off websites saying it's demolished and what is remaining open. https://patch.com/new-jersey/longbranch/goodbye-monmouth-mall-we-knew-it-demolition-now-underway I'm not local so i don't know where they moved the Barne's & Noble so I left it where it is. I'm leaving this note open for a survey to confirm and/or make future adjustments.
3~ 1 year agocommentedDawsZed
♦229
Hi, I'm local here; the remaining POIs are still open and correct. Only parts of the main mall building will be demolished, the separated buildings are roughly what will be kept. Note it's very early in demolition, and the overall building is very much still there.
4~ 1 year agocommentedDawsZed
♦229
As an update, it's well into demolition now, and only the superstructure core of the promenade remains standing. Moved over the Barnes, removed demolished parking areas. Had to adjust some bus routes that stop here.
5~ 9 months agocommentedDawsZed
♦229
Moved over the Monmouth Mall area to the food court/Barnes area that will remain, to keep its history. The main Monmouth Mall area is now substantially demolished and no longer standing - tagged this with a throwaway demolished:building area. Expanded construction areas, added the first few buildings seen under construction. Added an end_date to the SCAN activity center.

Added new buildings and roads surveyed under construction. This includes the future Whole Foods and an attached retail (the two buildings west of Macy's), the first of two "quad" apartment building blocks, a C-shaped community center, and a small retail store NE of the cinema. Added new parking lot alignment near the future Whole Foods as well as near the small retail; adjusted the construction area accordingly. Added a new unclassified road and pulloff/driveway seen N of the cinemas, and other roads seen under construction near the Whole Foods. Reclassified entrance roadways as primary_links, realigned Wyckoff Road, added speed humps and stop signs to "outer loop" roadways.
9~ 1 month agocommentedDawsZed
♦229
Add rough geometry of new buildings seen under construction SW of Macy's. Add rough geometry of new "quad" apartments now beginning construction. Realign "loop" street near Wyckoff Road and near the first quads. Downgrade southern loop road and reclassify as it is now closed and pending demolition/realignment - this also means the construction boundary has been modified again to expand it towards the road. Kushner now has an office where former Knockerball play center was. Removed the western exit for the delivery tunnel, and removed parking for the nearby senior center. Whole Foods seems complete with signage but is clearly not open yet, there's probably parking and roads that still need to be built to the NW and SE of the building.
10~ 17 days agocommentedDawsZed
♦229
Updated Bus Routes 831 and 832. This affects the southern half of the "loop road" around the property, which is permanently closed pending realignment and reclassification to discourage flow of through traffic.

Is it more of a proposal rather than construction? We don't map proposals on OSM since it can't be verified. And generally only map construction once they begin. We also don't use notes to keep track of construction projects once the details are captured. So what do we want to do? Regular pings to work toward note resolution? I had the details added, but you removed them, which I sort of agree. I don't think this note serves its intended purpose and is misleading if construction hasn't even started (and may not start immediately). I'm more than happy to ping the note for updates semi-regularly.

This is the Route 1&9T Extension (New Road) under the Lincoln Tunnel Access Project. From what I could find, there are three contracts to this roadway - this segment is Contract 1, which is complete. Found this document that shows its progress: https://www.nj.gov/transportation/capital/stip2433/sec11/pdf/njtpa.pdf Eventually the full extension of the roadway will fly over the Croxton Intermodal Terminal going SW, go under the NJ Transit lines, and join with Westside Avenue. One of the slides in this presentation shows the future alignment: https://0c337598-168f-4f94-ad4c-29cfee3567ca.filesusr.com/ugd/98f1dc_ff7e7c2802564755abf19e5121865cb9.pdf Not sure if NJTPA would open this segment when it's part of a larger roadway? If anyone local here can take a look to confirm, it'd be appreciated.

Neither tag is correct, it's a charter school now. Bing Streetside from 2021 shows the current tenant is KIPP Freedom Elementary School. Socials seem active still. This building was previously home to P.S. 91 Annex, P.S. 291, and most recently, P.S. 315. In Fall 2017, P.S. 315 moved to a former church at 2865 Claflin Avenue (https://www.riverdalepress.com/stories/ps-315-moving-into-former-church,60838), and in Fall 2018, KIPP opened in this building.

To be, or not to be! Seems like a lot of co-schools within this building have come and gone over the years, so research has been messy. What I have found is that I.S. 115 is the former name for this school per NYC DOB BISWeb (BIN 2013899), probably a remnant of a 1970s name in GNIS. The only existing school I can find at this address via NYC Gov is a middle school, "Academy for Personal Leadership and Excellence," with school number X363 (https://www.schools.nyc.gov/schools/X363). I've tagged the building with these changes.

The NYC DOB BISWeb profile for this building (BIN 2013561) lists the "DOB Special Place Name" as "P.S. 9 (OLD 115)" (https://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/PropertyProfileOverviewServlet?bin=2013561&requestid=1). The existing node, imported from GNIS as "Junior High School 115", is the historic name of this building. School records for JHS 115 from the NYC Municipal Archives span from 1958 to 1971 (https://a860-collectionguides.nyc.gov/repositories/2/archival_objects/623014), after which the school was likely repurposed to its present use.

Unable to answer "What’s the structure of this bridge?" for https://osm.org/way/1187969033 via StreetComplete 55.1: These "bridges" on Pier 16 are not actual bridges, they are just gangways for walking people or cargo onto ships. Attached photo(s): https://westnordost.de/p/195851.jpg

I see what you mean, but I'm not really sure how to tag this better; this metal structure bridges Pier 16 with a floating pier. Maybe it could be tagged as an extension of the pier, like both a pier and a bridge?
3~ 6 months agocommentedCurlingMan13

Pier and bridge would be acceptable. We also don't really have to get specific with the tagging. It can be left as a generic bridge. That is 100% acceptable.

I'll leave this as is, it's consistent with how many of the other gangway bridges in this area are already mapped out. I'll add a few details to close this out.

This building is a modern homage (built 1983) of the demolished Bogardus Building/Edgar Laing Stores (1849-1971), but it's not an exact replica nor at the same location. The South Street Seaport Museum lists this as "New Borgadus Building", and a few other online sources call this the "Borgadus Building". There isn't any signage giving this name from images though, so I feel like this may be more of a local name than an official name?

Thanks for adding the Bass Pro Shop, I just saw it under construction recently too. Here's their current progress document, in the About section of their website: https://riverton.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/2025-Riverton-Brochure-Rev-5.5.25.pdf The phasing diagram suggests about half the land developed by 2029. Over the years, they've been routinely pushing back these estimates. I don't consider them trustworthy, the Bass Pro Shop was expected to open a decade ago, then 2018, then they went silent until now.

So how it works is that there is a link below indicating that when a speed limit sign is variable meaning that it is dynamic and electronic, the "maxspeed" = "signals" tag can be replaced with "maxspeed:variable" = "yes" and add in the default speed limit as seen in the second source. Daitruxdd, You linked to the truck lanes, and this note is more for the car lanes. While that it moght be the same, they aren't due to truck traffic and merging lanes. Furthermore, there are no speed limit signs near here, making it a bit more difficult. You would need to check signage from there going north through here. I thought the SL was faster than 55 north to here. Again, we will need to check inagery to confirm. Mapillary has a great signage filter that allows easy viewing of speed limits without having to sort through all the images.
7~ 9 months agocommentedDaitruxdd
♦145
The SDL diagram clearly shows that the speed limit is 55 north of the segment provided in both directions for both the inner and outer roadways. Variable speed limits signs exist on this segment to adjust the speed limits based on conditions such as traffic, accidents or construction when needed. The road should be tagged as 55mph as that’s the “official” speed limit. An additional tag may be used to indicate that the speed limit is variable and subject to change if conditions make it necessary
8~ 8 months agocommentedDawsZed
♦229
The variable speed limit signs on the NJTP are mounted overhead with variable message boards - there's actually one just south of this note (https://www.mapillary.com/app/?pKey=370806464471016&focus=photo). As Daitruxdd found, the SLD shows the 65 -> 55 reduction begins much further south, near Tremley Point Road, and extends all the way north to the GWB. Checking Mapillary near Tremley, imagery does show 55 for both NB sides on a good day (https://www.mapillary.com/app/?pKey=527166115250771&focus=photo), and it's outlined in yellow to emphasize the start of reduction (https://www.mapillary.com/app/?pKey=1801176037332516&focus=photo). Poked at a few more NB signs north of here and they all look to be set to 55 as well. Here at the Eastern spur (https://www.mapillary.com/app/?pKey=2942351499330665&focus=photo), Western spur (https://www.mapillary.com/app/?pKey=286467283179373&focus=photo) and nearing the GWB (https://www.mapillary.com/app/?pKey=484115809679935&focus=photo).

The first one - there aren't any public accommodations in this lot open right now, and the road is paved but coned off. My impression is that only construction contractors are allowed to use this road while building interior work is done.
