33695271~ 3 years agoopenedKeitho3030Source of the Delgany Stream is about here and it flows just inside (East side) Bellevue Hill Road then turns East along field ditch into Carmelite Monastery Walled Garden then South and underground under Convent Rd down the hill under village centre emerging in back garden of the Old Rectory, out under (and over when flooded) Priory Road and into Three Trouts Stream just south of the bridge on Priory Rd
2~ 3 years agocommentedMrCheese123
♦189
I've added an approximation of the stream, based on an old map, but I'm not quite sure how it connects into Three Trout
3~ 3 years agocommentedKeitho3030Thanks. I have the Delgany Stream & the neighbouring Brown Trouts Stream recorded on an offline map and looking into how to get them onto OpenStreetMap and Google Earth
4~ 3 years agocommentedKeitho3030I see u have done a great job! It currently emerges above ground in that garden of The Old Rectory, flows to the wall of Prioty Rd at nearest point, into a trough on the side of Priory Rd, then directly across under Priory Road (and also over the Road in times of heavy rain). It seems to flow parallel just south of Priory Road, through an Irish Water pumping station site (track not clear) and into Three Trouts Stream just immediately upstream of the bridge. This might be the best flow to show? But there are other flows too, both into the road drainage system, and a flow on top of the road in heavy rain, and some flow into Three Trouts Stream just downstream of the bridge.
5~ 3 years agocommentedKeitho3030Upstream parts of the Delgany Stream and Brown Trouts Stream different & more complex than currently shown. I could Email an image if that helps

33695081~ 3 years agoopenedKeitho3030Brown Trouts Stream (Castle Stream branch) rises here in Old Bellevue Estate close to Sheila's Well, flows South East, joins with the other (Mill Stream) branch south west of Kindlestown Castle, down Delgany Wood and joins Three Trouts Stream on the Archers Wood Estate close to Evans motors
2~ 3 years agocommentedMrCheese123
♦189
I've added Brown Trout to the map, but haven't quite figured out how it goes from Kendlestown Rise
3~ 11 months agocommentedKeitho3030Nice work. Thank you. From the roundabout on Convent Rd (,East side) it can be seen above ground in gardens going directly South, under Riverbank Road and above ground to meet the section of stream shown. Thanks, Keith

5~ 1 month agoreopenedKeitho3030
6~ 1 month agocommentedKeitho3030This was excellent work thank u MrCheese124 and finn-hound. The course of the stream through the boggy wet woodland just before it hits Bellevue Hill Rd (bridge) is good but not accurate. The main flow is 20 - 25 m more to the West. The channel currently mapped is a 2nd channel. And after heavy rain there are several other channels too. The whole wooded area is very swampy / boggy / wet as they recently found out when they tried to chop & clear a roadway access onto Bellevue Hill Rd. I hope they will not try again. Thanks again guys. Keith
7~ 1 month agocommentedfinn-hound
♦106
Thank you very much for the additional information. I have adjusted the channel a bit with the limited data available and added from old maps what appears to be a second branch stream that joins into Brown Trout. Leaving the note open for future reference this time!

Is this actually part of Conkeen Road?
2~ 9 years agocommentedLancet
♦190
Actually, the continuation of Clonkeen Road is the diagonal stretch due east of this, as per fairly recent (1980s/1990s?) signage, which correlates with OSI maps. No idea whether this stretch has a name.
3~ 7 years agocommentedalan_gr
♦54
The diagonal stretch Lancet mentioned is still signed as Clonkeen Road - the construction of the dual carriageway cut Clonkeen Road in two but the southern "stub" has hung onto the name. I didn't see any indication of the name of this bit of road when I passed today - maybe it really has no name? Nobody would have an address here as the only entrance on this stretch is a side entrance to the shopping centre.
4~ 5 years agocommentedovencreatorI would agree this is not Clonkeen Road, and also that it appears to have no name. My Dad has lived in the area for ~50 years and calls it the "Monaloe Link Road".

Review buildings. It looks like there might be only one building on the whole school site.
2~ 2 months agocommentedfinn-hound
♦106
I have made one school building. Unsure if should be mapped as seperate, terraced, ones (given the glass corridors and the fact that the buildings seem to be made of seperate "parts") so I'll keep this note open.
3~ 2 months agoclosedVictorIE
♦2,938
Assuming the stripey white bits are the glass corridors, they still seem to be indoors, so I would call it one building. Certainly it seems more representative of what is there that what was mapped. Lots of schools have courtyards and fragmented parts. The green houses can be separate buildings. leisure=outdoor_seating and leisure=garden are useful for courtyards. It means the area is tagged and doesn't trigger 'unconnected way' or 'area has no tags' issues.

This park area - osm.org/way/42780393 - has name="Ashlawn Park", but the pillars at the entrance to it are engraved "Kilbogget Park". I have added a stream at this location and connected it to the flow towards Monkstown. It is unclear if the head of this stream actually connects to it or if this is the head of O'Toole's Stream which flows into Scotsman's Bay. There is a second set of rises marked on old maps in Ballinclea which may be the head of O'Toole's, making this mapping correct, but it may not. Unclear at the moment.

5860001~ 9 years agoopened---Where is the origin of Foxrock Stream? At what point does it transition to Cabinteely Stream?
2~ 9 years agocommentedLancet
♦190
Have done some research: The source of the stream is apparently north of the western end of Westminster Road, near Foxrock Village. The route is partly obscured by culverts. "St Bride's Stream", "Cabinteely Stream" and "Foxrock Stream" are all the same stream, continuing south until it joins Carrickmines River.

I have come back to this and added it, still could be better so I'll keep this open. The actual quarry is a bit further east of the note marker.

According to 19th century OS maps, there is a benchmark on the western bridge parapet. Whether or not it is still there, I don't know, but mapping the remaining benchmarks out would be a great OSM project.

this stretch of road goes by multiple other names, rathdown road, and ennis lane as a historic continuation of the real ennis lane before the housing estate was built. most locals would call it ennis lane i think

This lane is most likely a continuation of Rathmichael lane, I have no idea where the McGregor name came from, or if it was a joke. If anyone could fill me in on local knowledge about it that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
