Both it and the main road south of this note are labeled as Orchard Drive, but Cedar Falls doesn't usually share or split road names like this. The road hasn't been edited since 2010 and was only modified once after a Tiger import in 2007, so this may have just flown under the radar for a long time.

♦162		I was over this way again, so I swung by and checked it again. Both roads leading to the new roundabout are still closed for construction. A crew was working putting in a sidewalk north of Viking Road by the Target warehouse (give or take a half-mile east of this note), so maybe the construction project is larger than the city website explains. If we're unlucky and construction runs long, we might not have access until spring.

The most recent imagery in iD from April 2024 by ESRI doesn't show the new roads (It does show new houses between 65th and 67th Avenues that could be traced). We may need someone local to survey and determine the details.

I corrected it with a second changeset. Now it looks right on the map, but I want to make sure I didn't make a mistake somewhere. There was also an issue with the sidewalk that goes under the FLC, so please check that as well. I hit iD's "mark the building as higher," but I'm not sure why it threw an error in the first place. Advance Auto Parts is not the only tenant in this building, so its tags need to be transplanted from the building way to a node without losing history somehow. They occupy the north end of the building, but there is an Elite Mobile (electronics repair shop) in the middle and Vision for Less (optometrist/glasses shop) in the south end.

♦12,257		It depends on the tool you're using. The generic method is just erasing the tags from the building and creating a new node and adding the deleted data. There are some other tools that can automate the process - in iD you can click the building, rightclick and select "extract" (a little dot with an arrow pointing away from it) and it will automatically make a POI node that contains the business data within it, and also deletes the data from the building itself. LMK if you need more details or if you want someone to do this.

Together, they trace out the entire inner circle. There are also outer lanes in the center circle (not traced) for thru traffic on Viking. I also left in the bumbling to turn around so that you can see a general idea of the GPS accuracy and align to the existing roads. Let me know if you need more tracks; I can head back in a few days if you need more details.

As I don't know what this really looks like since I wasn't ever here, I have to rely on satellite imagery or other data to be sure it's aligned. Normally I leave anything that I freehand drew and this one qualifies though it's probably better than freehand as it uses GPS tracks.

♦17,806		I’m using rapid editor with Microsoft buildings enabled which provides decent building outlines in areas without tree cover. This layer is loaded by default but you need to enable it. The Esri database needs to loaded by searching for “United” that should bring it up and then click add. There should be tutorials that can provide additional details. The Esri data was consistent with previously mapped addresses so I added the missing ones. Microsoft doesn’t have outlines for some of your notes and none of the available imagery showed leaf off images so I didn’t map those houses. These two databases are handy for quickly adding houses and addresses if you use an appropriate level of caution.
