The wiki is quite clear that notes should not be used in a way that is "useless to others": https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Notes I'm not necessarily saying this note is useless, but I don't think it's very useful to have on the map as it provides no additional information nor requests action (such as a survey request). If we keep notes open like this, you could theoretically add a note to every building saying "tracking future use". That being said, it is just a note, and while I and others have a goal of reducing the number of notes in the UK by resolving them and updating the map accordingly, the wiki is also clear that notes should not be a place for arguing or extended discussion, and as such I will not push my position any further as it does no use to either of us. Sometimes it's just "X has changed", recording details for when they can get back to a PC and can map it properly. Sometimes it is recording the state of something in a state of flux. In neither case does closing the note remotely help. Full disclosure - I'm from the DWG and we get complaints about people opening lots of notes without survey _and_ closing them (although probably more about the latter). If you have visited an area and find that a note (especially an old one) is no longer relevant then of course it makes sense to close it, but I suspect that this may not be the case here. | |

All that being said, I think the main issue is what it means for the building to be "abandoned". It may be legally owned by the city because no one is paying tax on it or claims to own it.
