I updated it. Detailed: I finally fixed this mess of a problem! I cross-referenced Canada Post's address lookup system with the property maps for both the City of Surrey and the City of Delta to figure out exactly what’s going on. The road is officially named 120 Street. Because of how strict the mailing system is, most properties on the straight stretches would not get mail if you addressed them to 'Scott Road' instead—Scott Road is usually just treated as a local alternative name or an area description. BUT, 'Scott Road' becomes the exclusive official name in a few specific sections: a northern stretch approximately north of Grace Road, and another stretch roughly between 99 Avenue and 103 Avenue. The reason for this comes down to the municipal grid: numbered streets must run perfectly north/south. If the road bends or cuts diagonally, that section violates the grid and can no longer be called 120 Street. In those curves and diagonals, the road officially becomes Scott Road only. But the moment it straightens out to run exactly north/south again, it reverts to being 120 Street (with Scott Road as the alternative name). | |
