| 5391320 Category: Unknown | 1 | ~ 28 days ago | opened | --- | Blue Ridge Parkway from I-26 to NC215 is open… we can not create routes between NC276 on the BRP to NC215 because you have a road closed sign blocking the open route on the BRP. PLEASE MOVE YOUR ROAD CLOSED PAST THE NC215 exit so we can create routes that are open! |

~ 22 days ago | commented | alphagearhead | Navigation still will not allow routing through this point, even though there's no road closed symbol |
~ 22 days ago | commented | ICT_maps ♦13,283 | navigation probably doesn't pull data instantly |
~ 22 days ago | commented | alphagearhead | Seemed like the ~6 days since resolution would have been enough but idk |
~ 21 days ago | commented | gpserror ♦11,871 | possible osrm is not liking access=permissive ... that would be an osrm issue? |
~ 21 days ago | commented | alphagearhead | There is a gate at this point (as at other points along BRP) but it was open when we drove through today. |
~ 21 days ago | commented | gpserror ♦11,871 | Yes. The gate is drawn on the map with access=permissive and it s.eems OSRM is treating it as a no-go. Take a look at the other routers and they'll route through a permissive gate |
~ 10 days ago | commented | a1phonse ♦10 | It seems these gates should be tagged with a conditional access restriction instead of permissive/seasonal access (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Conditional_restrictions). This appears to be supported by many navigation apps but not OSRM. I took a shot at updating the tags and tested with OsmAnd and it seems to be working correctly for me after the change (though it was indeed broken before). I used month/day tags instead of seasonal tags for better compatibility with navigation apps, although the dates will vary slightly year to year. Someone please let me know if you're aware of a better way to tag these. A couple other things related to comments here...First, some apps allow routing through gates/private areas as a navigation setting. Second, in some apps I've used, map updates are tied to app updates, so when someone sees changes will depend on both when the developers of the app release an update and when the user installs the update...which can sometimes be a while. |
~ 10 days ago | commented | gpserror ♦11,871 | This sounds like a routing software problem. This is hard to fix if it breaks one software to fix another, so IMHO data fixes to satisfy specific software is not a good idea... What routing software... |
~ 10 days ago | commented | a1phonse ♦10 | I agree -- in this case I had previously proposed and then added the seasonal=winter tag last time this issue came up here. But after reading the OSM wiki again, it appears that access:conditional=<condition> is preferred for seasonal roads (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:seasonal). Seasonal for a gate is also ambiguous, as it notes when the feature is "active or usable"...when the gate is active the Parkway is not usable, which is unclear IMO. My software comment was based on the table from the OSM wiki showing that access:conditional=@winter (which I would prefer because the open/close dates vary by year) is not supported by *any* navigation software listed there, while access:conditional=@Dec15-Mar01 (which I used) is supported by roughly half. |
~ 10 days ago | commented | a1phonse ♦10 | There seems to be something else going on here, though...when the start/end point of the route is placed on the Parkway I get a route via the Parkway (regardless of which side of the gate it's on). When the start/end point is placed a few meters away on NC 215, it routes via 215 despite it being a much longer route...I can't find anything on the map that would cause this, but am pretty certain it has nothing to do with the gates. |
| 5404109 Category: Unknown | 1 | ~ 22 days ago | opened | alphagearhead | This is a private, gated road. |
~ 22 days ago | commented | CurlingMan13 ♦54,213 | I'm not finding any gate on aerial imagery here. |
~ 21 days ago | commented | alphagearhead | Well it was there, with a “private, no entry” sign when we followed our route to it.
