The layer on that multipolygon relation was raised to level 4 in changeset 144170003, probably in an attempt to have it draw over the top of underlying roads but I believe roads *always* draw over the top of closed ways/multipolygons, which would ultimately be for clarity I would assume. Having the bridge's multipolygon draw over the top of roads underneath would hide them and ultimately drawing the roads is more important for the functionality of a map than drawing supporting structures around the roads. Some sections in this area (e.g. the lightrail) is drawn in a dashed line but it's a pretty messy workflow as roads have to be broken up and fragmented in overlapping sections just to draw them right, which causes a lot of inconsistency over time and maintenance overhead. If there's a better way to do it, do let us know (e.g. some parameterized way that tells an object to be covered wherever it intersects with another object - but I doubt it)! | |

Yep, that does seem to be what Carto does (the default osm.org renderer). Carto is just one of many renderers though, and in this case it seems to be hiding a problem with the layer tags. If we set the layers correctly here, then: * Nothing would change in Carto, as it always draws roads on top of bridges anyway. * Renderers that do consider bridge layers (such as Organic Maps) would display things correctly. Fixing it might be easier said than done though - as you say there’s a lot going on in this area! I might have a go on the weekend if I get time. | |

Whether or not OSM or OrganicMaps interprets and renders "more correctly" in this instance is probably arguable but the layer=4 in a context of layer=2 paths was definitely inconsistent and seemed like a previous, slightly misguided lower-level attempt to fix a higher level issue. I've changed this path to level 2 (which also, as mentioned, follows equivalent objects in its context). I'm not sure how often OrganicMaps update their data that the client uses, so it might take a while for the change to come through, you might know better. Let me know once it's resolved so we can close the issue. | |
