There isn't a road here, but Elizabeth Court (also referred to as Queen Elizabeth Court) is the row of houses to the south reached by some steps. Access to those steps seems to be through a residents' car park here. I'm not confident enough in my memory to edit this, but this area as currently mapped confused me.

Looks as though the A515 S of the junction with Washbrook Lane (ie in Fenny Bentley) is called Ashbourne Road. No open data postcodes show up for Buxton Road (other than one of the Blue Bell) whereas several appear (also including one for the Blue Bell) for Ashbourne Road: http://osm-nottingham.org.uk/?z=14&lon=-1.74305&lat=53.05579&bgl=OSM,1,15&s=ashbourne%20road&st=SearchOpendataJson&uc=1

This definitely didn't look like an unclassified road the last time that I was here. It was a service road to a farm, and didn't look like it was council-maintained. Has this status changed? I don't see any extra underlying GPS traces, suggesting that a survey hasn't happened, and someone's just guessing.

The only reference I can find in the mapping to the North Staffs railway is the historic information board. The Churnet Valley line was part of the North Staffs so that is correct. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Churnet_Valley_line The comment refers to the part currently used for a heritage railway.

The definitive map shows it going through the farm. On the ground it takes the route shown. I suspect an illegal diversion and I will try to survey before long.

♦7
yes it has many section of steps, source: surveyed
32024-01-15 13:17commentedSK53
♦3,855
Could you possibly mark them individually? Or if not divide the path and mark it as steps for the part which is mostly steps. (In an ideal world count the steps too!) On steep ground, steps can be more of a hindrance than a help for some walkers, and a little foreknowledge of their existence is useful.
42024-01-16 18:03commentedslim-and-shady
♦7
I'm unlikely to return there but the steps are rather useful there. Limestone is prevalent in Dovedale and becomes slippery when wet. Step are solid, stuffed with limestone at times.
52025-02-01 21:53commentedMalcolm Boura
♦36
It is not on the Staffordshire definitive map so what form the designation takes needs to be checked.

My sister descended a steep & loose path hereabouts direct to Ilam Rock & the footbridge. It's not on OSM, but from her description obvious from above, whereas the it not obvious that the public footpath continued.
22025-02-01 21:50commentedMalcolm Boura
♦36
According the definitive map that is the official footpath. I haven't walked it but from the bottom it looks a lot more difficult than the alternative to the north.

I would strongly advise adding a sac_scale tag (at least demanding _mountain_hiking). If this is on National Trust land it might be worth contacting their mapping team (there should be a page on the wiki).
