♦926		"Rules or conventions" as in "rules or conventions of OSM"? You can add the address, plus a note under the `fixme=*` key to say something like "`addr:housenumber=4020` should be confirmed on site," just to flag to anyone who happens by this data to know it's *technically* just speculative. That said, the conventions of street addressing in Calgary make it overwhelmingly likely that this is 4020: 1) it's on the "4000 block" of Stanley Road because it's between 39th and 40th Avenues, 2) it's on the east side of the road, therefore it's an even number, 3) it's located equidistant between known addresses of 4016 and 4024. To me It's an extremely reasonable guess.

♦926		A bunch of them were unnecessarily (in my opinion) tagged as "service roads" (whereas I think only the one path is actually wide enough to feasibly accommodate a pickup truck or other service vehicle), which may have been causing validation errors. Some of it was also mapped as footpaths, which would show up as 'disconnected from other paths' as the iD editor treats them as such unless connected to another footpath or an entrance or something. Otherwise, barring a few paths that were missing (which I've added), seems okay to me. *shrug*

♦926		This part of 10th Street SW is closed to vehicular traffic—and already mapped as such—however, it will be undergoing a more comprehensive redevelopment of a park space. This was approved by the Calgary's City Council at a public hearing on May 6, 2025; see https://dmap.calgary.ca/?p=LOC2024-0202 Presumably construction will begin the summer of 2025, and this should be updated to suit!

♦926		I don't think anything here will be changing soon; the approval from City Council was to make the "pilot project" space here permanent, but I can't find any more recent plans to make any substantial changes. The land-use amendment included all of 10th Street south of the alley, but there's a driveway to a garage in the Connaught Gardens townhouses that will presumably need to stay... Anyway, I'm closing this note because I don't think anything will come of this anytime soon.

It was the long-time home of Campers Village (rechristened Breathe Outdoors for its last few years), but they have recently closed and the building is now occupied by a Halloween Alley "party" shop that sells costumes, decorations and other Halloween-themed knick-knacks. As far as I can tell this is only a temporary occupancy (e.g. the signage on the shop is just vinyl banners), and likely to shutter its doors soon after Halloween 2025.

If you refer to the wiki (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:shop=chemist), a 'chemist's shop' is described as "A shop typically selling a similar range of articles to a dispensing community pharmacy: over-the-counter drugs, personal hygiene (toothpastes, shampoos, soaps etc.), cosmetics (usually cheaper ones), and household cleaning products." Being that The Apothecary sells stuff like soaps, herbs, and such I categorized it as a "chemist's shop" within the (British) meaning used on OSM. They also sell 'essential oils' and other ["woo-woo"](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/woo_woo#Adjective) stuff, which is the only thing that gave me pause when tagging it as `shop=chemist`. I'm not insistent that it remain tagged as such, but what would you suggest otherwise?

I get my coffee from here, they sell pickles and scrub brushes and diapers. Looking at The Apothecary's competition in Calgary, there is Canary, and there's Without Co. Canary is tagged as a garden centre, which also feels wrong although houseplants is one thing they sell, and Without Co. is tagged as a general store, which, is hard to say if that's quite right either. Both sell very similar items to Apothecary with some variation in terms of how much they keep in stock. Would be nice if refillery were its own tag.

And yes it is somewhat confusing, in that the OSM tags are generally named with a preference for British English terms. 😅 Devil's advocate: if we were to create a `shop=refillery` tag, I think it begs the question if that tag is specific enough to describe what the store actually sells. Y'know what I mean? A 'refillery' describes the manner in which your merchandise is 'packaged' rather than what it is exactly that they sell. Fire instance The Apothecary and Bulk Barn are both "refilleries" in principle, in that you buy stuff by weight using your own refillable containers, right? However, I wouldn't categorize them the same. It seems most Bulk Barn stores are tagged as `shop=supermarket`. I actually added the former Canary location (https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/7439421533) as `shop=houseware`; it seems someone else added their new location as a "garden centre" (https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/8454540790). Looks like I ought to delete the info from the old node...

This alley has since been paved; I'm not sure if the aforementioned grass patch here has since been paved with asphalt. Even the grass patch is still there, it's a de facto connection. Call it what you will, a footway with "informal=yes" and "surface=grass" tags perhaps, but most pedestrians could easily walk across it.

This is where one goes to register a vehicle in the provincial government's registry of motor vehicles, renew drivers' licences (and/or to undergo driver licence testing), land titles, corporations, to add one's name to the organ donor registry, etc. These are all government registries, but all of the public-facing aspects of the registries are handled by these private agents. I brought this up tangentially in a recent discussion about the "government=register_office" tag: https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/is-the-government-register-office-tag-being-used-correctly/101291/2 I have personally added one of these registry agents using the "office=government, government=register_office" tags, e.g. https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/5286594240, but (per the linked discussion above) I'm not really sure there is an existing tag that makes sense here. ♦926		Other than its size—which is unusual, the Calgary Land Use Bylaw doesn't typically allow for an "accessory residential building" like a garage to be larger than the 'main' building on the property—is there anything about this to suggest it's *not* a garage? Given the oddball, pie-shaped property it's on it wouldn't surprise me if the garage is extra-large to accommodate a car's turning radius in and out. It appears the entire east side is a driveway space, and I'm guessing there's a "double" door on the east wall (the long dimension) of the garage to accommodate a car getting in and out.

♦9		Yes, thank you. I was just updating so it would show up in OSMAND with '4th' included in the search. Previously it was only showing the various neighbourhoods, which makes it really difficult to make a quick search from within the app for the sake of navigation. Thank you!

♦926		Ah, gotcha. I've added a `branch=4th Street` tag to it as well (https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/165729553). The other locations—or at least the ones in Ramsay and on 10th St NW—include the 'branch' in the name on the door, i.e. the one in Ramsay is "Red's in Ramsay", the one on 10th Street is "Red's in Kensington". (I'm not sure about the one on 58th; to be perfectly honest I never even noticed there was one on 58th! haha) But, being that this one is the 'O.G.' location it still just says "Red's Diner", hence why no one had added anything else to distinguish it from the other locations.

The crossing on the map is on the SOUTH side, where there absolutely is an existing (unmarked) crossing. (It's out of frame to the right side of the photo.) I have updated the tagging with respect to having an island (it does not) for the sake of closing the StreetComplete issue, and added curb nodes for completeness; see https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/165695614. Note that the sign's instruction are *not* "go to the next intersection with a signal." It just says "use next crosswalk", regardless of whether it's marked/signalized/etc.

♦4,188		(Saw this note on list of notes in Canada, hi!) In Toronto I've started tagging them as building=house + house=laneway_house, that's got a dozen usages from two users now. I'm not really dead-set on it, if only because not all backyard/garden suites are laneway houses and it feels silly to have house=laneway_house, house=backyard_suite, and maybe others. There was some tagging discussion on Github https://github.com/openstreetmap/id-tagging-schema/pull/1422#issuecomment-2658116635 and in wiki (currently down). As a result https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposal:Accessory_Dwelling_Unit was created, but I don't remember what it suggested and the wiki is currently down... Some thoughts because I can't read the wiki... Ultimately a laneway/backyard house isn't much different from a regular house. The distinction of being the second house on a property isn't _quite_ relevant to OSM. One distinction is possible lack of unique address, whether for mail delivery or for emergency location. In Vancouver laneway houses can be assigned distinct house numbers, but I don't know if they get mail to the door. If Calgary laneway/backyard don't get distinct addresses, we could tag them with same address as the primary house?
