62025-08-18 05:40commentedChrisM4As I mentioned in the private message, those tags won’t solve anything, especially since very few people actually look at them, and in most cases, they don’t even show up in apps. This trail is described on Hribi.net. The trail itself isn’t particularly difficult. What makes it challenging is the orientation in two sections, and the part closer to the Rigelj route is full of fallen trees. So, this trail is definitely not suitable for casual weekend hikers. It requires some skill in navigation and prior experience. For someone who’s experienced, though, it can be an interesting challenge. The mountain rescue service would actually prefer that this trail and the one through Rigelj, be closed entirely. That’s because people who aren’t familiar with hiking or navigation end up on it, even without looking at OSM, and then they need to be rescued. Apparently, this has happened quite a few times on the Rigelj trail, which is much more passable but still unmarked. So, in my opinion, it would be best to at least add a note to the trail name indicating that it’s not suitable for regular hikers, as they could easily get lost.

♦710		Difficulty is data, we should add it wherever possible regardless of rendering or other problems. It's just one of the tags. I'd also add trailblazed=no for completeness. OpenAndroMaps shows the SAC scale graphically and same for any hiking app/overlay that comes to mind (Tracestrack here on osm.org even with a label), so it is practically useful also for people that don't plan ahead. Will that stop all idiots? Of course not, but it can help. Also some apps don't render paths with too high difficulty (actually recognizing the difference between hiking and mountaineering). I'm not sure butchering the name would achieve much, since it might even attract people. But yeah, it's a hard problem.
82025-08-18 08:40commentedChrisM4Honestly, my main point was to highlight the issue that people could get lost no matter the tags. In this case, as already mentioned, the trail_visibility tag has been set. It seems the person who reported the issue may have overlooked that. From what I’ve seen, the SAC Scale Level T4 in OSM is described as: "Exposed areas, possibly unmarked paths, alpine experience needed." I’m not sure this is the right designation, since this isn’t really alpine hiking. It’s more like walking through a local forest. The only part of that description that might apply is "possibly unmarked paths." That said, if someone thinks this tag is appropriate or cool, I don’t mind if it’s added. Personally, I mostly use Locus Maps, which is a fairly popular app.

The short "mikado" sections, depending on how hard they are, deserve a different scale and potentially visibility. You can see T4 is also used on the path over Rigelj.

The actual entry points are at the bottom and at the top of the hill. The entry point for the aerial way should be at the top, bottom and middle, with bottom being tagged as main entrance. Mariborsko Pohorje as a hill should not have any entry point, because it is a region. IMO.

That relation through to Maribor is indeed signposted according to the EuroVelo site, so it would make sense that it's all the same relation IMO (although I'm not sure what's generally accepted here). After Maribor, the route is still under development through the rest of Slovenia and Italy, and developed without signage in Croatia - so I'm not sure what's most appropriate here.

♦11		Regarding this section from the border to Maribor, I'm going to opt to add the EV9 ref - the Eurovelo site says it's signed, and I'm going to use that as my source of truth. It's also interesting that this section is mapped "D-1", whereas the rest of the country (and indeed the rest of D(-)1) seems to be mapped without the "-". For some additional context, here's the sign mentioned on https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/193490#map=12/46.6272/15.6580&layers=C: https://maps.app.goo.gl/qgHNmBJ9WpGETdZX6 This is given extra weight by the apparent mapping of EV9 from Maribor to Slovenska Bistrica. I would be interested to know how this route was picked, since it doesn't seem to follow the Eurovelo site (which says that the route is undecided).
