https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/269919868/history Is it gate or stile? Is there really a stile here? If yes, then barrier=stile is missing. 345382112022-11-24 07:52openedSDAVDIs it definitely 60mph here? Feels like a 30 with the streetlights, and the NSL signs prior to the A1M roundabout.
22023-02-19 20:49commentedphodgkin
♦2,333
There were no signs indicating a lower limit, but signage is definitely odd, with nothing on reverse of NSL sign. Suspect lighting is for cycles/pedestrians. Didn't otherwise feel like 30 mph zone.

♦2,333
I've re-driven over this section and it is clearly 60+. S section is divided highway, so I suspect that the one-side NSL signs are saying "definitely 60 mph from here".

270095612021-06-06 08:56openedJack DonnellyThis should denote the athletics complex attached to the Wentworth Leisure Centre, including their track and field facilities. Currently, you cannot determine who this feature belongs to and the function it serves, (as part of the Wentworth Leisure Centre). There should be a basic identification of the 8 lane track, the multi-purpose sports field, which is adapted for field events in athletics as well as competitive football matches. Furthermore, there should be an indication of the use of these facilities for international sporting events as well as local events and the fact that this facility plays home to Tynedale Athletics Club. This could be depicted using a photograph, highlighting it's link to the local community and it's athletes.
22022-02-12 17:24commentedjambamkin
♦1,603
Hi Jack, Not sure what you mean here. The running track and sports field are both on the map. I can only count 6 lanes on the track from aerial photography. Photographs can be linked to the map database, but these would usually be of the mapped object and not of a related club. James

Does this long address interpolation way with occasional numbers on it serve a useful purpose?
22025-09-13 19:32commentedCanopyFalls

It allows routing engines to guess the location of addresses that nobody has been able to fix to a building in survey yet. Could absolutely do with a survey.
32025-09-15 09:58commentedphodgkin
♦2,333
But I just don't think it is accurate / meaningful. It can only have been added from historical mapping since the section from 1-127 goes through a redeveloped area. There are plenty of accurately numbered properties along Ecclesall Road. The shorter interpolations are fine, but this long one seems to make things worse.

Some of these markers may have gone, but the geograph image looks reasonably current: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Old_Boundary_Marker_by_disused_railway_bed,_Stanhope_Parish_(geograph_6045574).jpg These blocks are original sleepers from the Stockton and Darlington, so closely related!
42025-07-28 10:27commentedgurglypipe
♦1,706
That geograph image is tagged 200m further south than this note, just south of where the power lines cross the road. So that could explain why I couldn’t find anything! I’ll leave the note open in case someone else can take a look. I did some reading and it seems this was a cable-pulled railway incline with a stationary engine at the top. I assume the threaded stone blocks were for cable guides then — they’re all aligned centrally in the track bed, and there aren’t anywhere near enough of them to act as sleepers.

♦1,706
I’m not sure if I’ll get a chance to go there and resurvey. From my trip along the Frosterley Cut today, there are plenty more markers up there. From some reading about the railway, these seem to be boundary markers rather than (as I’d assumed) milestones. The railway land was leased, rather than purchased, so they might be to mark the extent of the leased area. There are loads of them near the Frosterley Cut, on both sides of the railway corridor.

Sure, that would also work. Get rid of the landuse=grass and retag the existing park as landuse=recreation_ground surface=grass operator=National Trust and maybe a note about how it’s occasionally grazed?

22025-05-03 22:55commentedInfinatum

Noted this a few weeks back, My best guess is that this section of the line is shared with the line to the Prax Jarrow Terminal. The metro line used to be separate, but was changed a few years back, since it used to be a single metro track. (you can see the branch near the Tyne Tunnel / A19). So the track is both freight and Light rail. Hope this answers your question.

Yes, the whole "network of bridleways" doesn't look right to me. If these are "multi user paths", I would be tempted to tag as cycleways (with horse=yes if allowed / actually a bridleway) if a "paved" surface or paths (with relevant access tags) if a non-sealed surface.

Cadastre gives this path as the track of the Chemin de Plan (supported by stronger Strava heatmap trace) rather than track to north.

I've removed the "Chemin de Plan de l'Aiguille" label, as the route was incomplete anyway, and searching for this name gives varying results. This makes the note redundant.

Saltwell Park still has active bowling clubs so I suspect the greens are still officially bowling greens even if not very well maintained.

agreed. it's a tarmac surface and clearly not primarily a bridleway. plus you'd be mad to try and ride a horse across the dual carrigeway. fixed.
