Labelling building wings with `office=research` is surely tagging for the renderer?
2~ 6 days agocommentedntzm
♦347
I agree, how do you think uni faculties should be tagged?
3~ 6 days agocommentedphodgkin
♦2,373
I don't think there's a well defined tagging scheme. But Sheffield does seem to have an epidemic of blue dots, with `office=research` being (ab)used to make labels. I really don't think you can start labelling bits of buildings like this.
4~ 5 days agocommentedntzm
♦347
You'll find they were mostly added by one user who always tagged for the renderer. I would be happy to remove these but it does feel like it is kind of useful information. I think tagging "wings" can be deleted, but actual departments and their floors feels like useful information, not necessarily tagged in their current scheme though.
5~ 5 days agocommentedphodgkin
♦2,373
I think the building parts labels should be converted to building:part + name. It won't get rendered, but will keep the info. The stuff in () usually belongs in other tags e.g. anonyms, building levels (-> level).

2~ 14 days agocommentedphodgkin
♦2,373
The access tagging on this lane/drive looks completely wrong. I presume the drive up to the residential area is a public footpath and the footway leading S/SE is also a public FP? Assuming it is otherwise a private road and no other permission is granted (horse / bicycle etc.) then correct tagging would be access=private + foot=yes (on the public FP section) It's also a good idea to add designation=public_footpath on the sections that are public FPs. The track heading NE is also tagged with "access=permissive", which seems unlikely.

As in, is this no longer branded as Well Pharmacy and is instead operating independently? aiui Well sold off a load of branches in March 2025, so presumably that’s what you’re trying to check? https://grangecommunitypharmacy.com/about-us/ suggests that it’s still the same pharmacy operating from the same premises, just under different branding. Some of the older Google Reviews on the page call it ‘Well’. So yes, this probably should now be labelled as ‘Grange Pharmacy’, but I haven’t visited Grange in a little while so can’t confirm with a survey right now. Feel free to go ahead and change it anyway, I think there’s enough supporting evidence from the website.

27009561~ 4 years agoopenedJack DonnellyThis should denote the athletics complex attached to the Wentworth Leisure Centre, including their track and field facilities. Currently, you cannot determine who this feature belongs to and the function it serves, (as part of the Wentworth Leisure Centre). There should be a basic identification of the 8 lane track, the multi-purpose sports field, which is adapted for field events in athletics as well as competitive football matches. Furthermore, there should be an indication of the use of these facilities for international sporting events as well as local events and the fact that this facility plays home to Tynedale Athletics Club. This could be depicted using a photograph, highlighting it's link to the local community and it's athletes.

Hi Jack, Not sure what you mean here. The running track and sports field are both on the map. I can only count 6 lanes on the track from aerial photography. Photographs can be linked to the map database, but these would usually be of the mapped object and not of a related club. James

But I just don't think it is accurate / meaningful. It can only have been added from historical mapping since the section from 1-127 goes through a redeveloped area. Some of these markers may have gone, but the geograph image looks reasonably current: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Old_Boundary_Marker_by_disused_railway_bed,_Stanhope_Parish_(geograph_6045574).jpg These blocks are original sleepers from the Stockton and Darlington, so closely related!
4~ 8 months agocommentedgurglypipe
♦1,766
That geograph image is tagged 200m further south than this note, just south of where the power lines cross the road. So that could explain why I couldn’t find anything! I’ll leave the note open in case someone else can take a look. I did some reading and it seems this was a cable-pulled railway incline with a stationary engine at the top. I assume the threaded stone blocks were for cable guides then — they’re all aligned centrally in the track bed, and there aren’t anywhere near enough of them to act as sleepers.

I’m not sure if I’ll get a chance to go there and resurvey. From my trip along the Frosterley Cut today, there are plenty more markers up there. From some reading about the railway, these seem to be boundary markers rather than (as I’d assumed) milestones. The railway land was leased, rather than purchased, so they might be to mark the extent of the leased area. There are loads of them near the Frosterley Cut, on both sides of the railway corridor.

Noted this a few weeks back, My best guess is that this section of the line is shared with the line to the Prax Jarrow Terminal. The metro line used to be separate, but was changed a few years back, since it used to be a single metro track. (you can see the branch near the Tyne Tunnel / A19). So the track is both freight and Light rail. Hope this answers your question.
