♦16,077		I'm not. Next time I have a reason to be in Broken Arrow I'll probably check it out. The next city over from this, Tulsa, invented the yield sign, and while they're not used anywhere near as frequently as the MUTCD warrants (with yield signs being the preferred traffic control, with stop signs reserved for blind corners and "we tried everything else and nothing worked" situations, not "because we didn't think of anything else"), they are much more common in this region than elsewhere in the US.

I've ridden interstates a bit, even illegally ridden turnpikes to cross rivers. They were rural areas or nice shoulders. This intersection (east of marker) is just odd to see without satellite or video and should be avoided if you can't break 30 mph on a moped, bike, whatever. Seeing the orange color is very misleading, for someone who doesn't investigate every junction before attempting to go through. I am sorry if I came across the wrong way, it's just frustrating to see classifications of roads that make it dangerous for non locals (which I am not, but I try to investigate all route options). I don't know what else to say, but I understand that classifying a road is outside the scope of osm. Thanks for your help.

♦2,615		As requested, I investigated it. First, this was only showing up on OSRM and GraphHopper, Valhalla routed as most would with the longer route. If you look at pure distances and speeds, the two routes are actually fairly close in time, but once you throw in three traffic lights, the higher speed / longer route should always be faster on average. I updated the tags on some traffic light nodes so hopefully they'll be weighed in properly. I did find missing advisory speed limits on two links. I added one based off the sign. The other I had to estimate off nearby link radius and I added a FIXME on cause the sign appears missing. This hopefully will make the longer route correctly be calculated as faster. There is only so much that can be done on the OSM side. "Good" routing is subjective and some of it really should be improved on the router side.

While useful for finding missing information, the routers are separate open source projects. https://github.com/valhalla/valhalla https://github.com/graphhopper/graphhopper https://github.com/Project-OSRM/ Without going through the source code, I can only speculate at the reasoning. But if I had to speculate, it's cause modeling traffic lights is more difficult than just measuring a distance at a fixed speed which is how the simplest routers work. You have to know what % time it is is green in each direction. You have to estimate acceleration of the vehicle. While not impossible to do, it's has two unknowns they often don't have. The other, probably bigger issue ,is that stop signs and lights aren't consistently mapped. Some people forget them, some people throw them on every intersecting nodes, some people map them at the lines. On the OSM side, our responsibility is to make sure the tags are accurate and complete, if the routes are still "bad" the routers likely need to updated.
