What do you gain by merging a duplex into a single area?

I feel like it's preferable to keep them as separate areas and tag building=semidetached_house, because then you have the detail of it being a duplex, and which address is which
2 ~ 2 months agomvexel I think we're both partly right?
In this case, the building does in fact have two separate entrances, so semi_detached makes sense - but it would have to be side-by-side and not one street-facing and one in the back.

I often see buildings that are built as single-family houses converted to ...

I commented this on the OSMUS Slack, but I do not think this edit is a good idea. The wiki only suggests tagging a road closure if the road will be closed >6 months: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway%3Dconstruction. Since many data users only pull data every once in a while, that me...

Now that 500 E is only one lane each direction south of 600 S I completely agree that it should be tertiary south of there. But I wonder if it makes sense to keep 500 E north of 600 S as secondary.

State and 7th E are obvious primaries, no disputes there. Between those, we currently have 200 E, 4...
2 ~ 2 years agomvexel Thanks for giving this some thought. I'm fine keeping it as tertiary, you're making good points. I am waiting to see what happens with the northernmost section of 500E.

Reconstruction of 200 S between 7th and State is almost done, reducing the road to two travel lanes, two dedicated bus...
3 ~ 2 years agomvexel I mean keep it as secondary :)

For sure! I'll re-upgrade that section of 500 E for now, but I completely agree that if they re-stripe the northern section to one lane in each direction then we should subsequently downgrade it to tertiary. It's certainly not a road like 1300 E or 900 W that is are obvious secondaries des...
5 ~ 2 years agomvexel I agree that it is generally in very good shape and thank you for being a great steward of our shared OSM data!

I don't think 2100 S should be primary, I agree it's an important E-W corridor but it just doesn't have the significance or road layout a primary should have in my opini...

One place I differ from others is that I put absolutely zero thought into who maintains a road when I look at classification: I see it as totally irrelevant. Naturally the state-maintained roads are usually more important, but the average person has no idea and doesn't care at all.

Are all of these bus stops added in singe edit changesets?

Regardless, the bus stop street names shouldn't be abbreviated.
2 ~ 2 years agomvexel I added them all by hand in individual changesets based on official UTA data and aerials / survey.

The names are the official names that UTA lists for the stops in their data. Since the names are rendered on most maps, I figured it'd be nicer to keep them that way. The wiki[1] doesn't ...

Technically the Bonneville Salt Flats are part of the West Desert (Great Salt Lake Desert). They could either be independent features or they could be some kind of relation, though I don't know what that would look like.

Hi,
your plugin left 'magic_wand' tags on the objects it created. I guess these should be removed?
2 ~ 3 years agomvexel I guess these should be deleted. I don't know what the best practice is for indicating source on features but I agree this is probably not it.
3 ~ 3 years agomvexel Removed those tags in https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/129606602

It looks like the 21st South Freeway bore the `name` "2100 South Freeway" for the whole length before user Sagei redid the entire thing last month in 100563396. Also it looks like they changed it from motorway to trunk? That edit didn't come across my radar when it happened, but, revi...

Remember to split the off-ramp from the on-ramp. Otherwise, routers will say the wrong destination for the on-ramp. Also, the ref prefix for state routes in Ohio is “SR”, not “OH”. (Fixed in changeset 57929510.)

Why did you add those unconnected sidewalks here? They can't be used by routing engines. Wouldn't it be better to go the other way around and tag roads were pedestrians are not allowed?
2 ~ 8 years agomvexel Hi Spanholz. I map what's there on the ground, not for any specific application / service. People looking at the map can see at a glance that there are sidewalks they can use, something I think is valuable. Where connections to the road network exist, I will map them as such.
